GWC Re-Watch Frak Party: Sacrifice

It’s week twenty-seven of our planned off-season re-watch of the entire “re-imagined” BSG canon, and it’s time to move on to the season 2.5 episode “Sacrifice.” So why not join us here for the GWC online frak party? There’s room for everyone, though you’ll have to bring your own snacks…

Feel free to jump in at any point with your comments on this week’s episode as the re-watch is by definition spoiler free. We’ll be in and out, but we’ll definitely take a look at your comments before we start next week’s podcast.

Note: Though a lot of the frak party will likely take place in the GWC Forum— click [here] to enter and join the fun — we’re going to leave comments open here as well as some listeners and readers have asked us to do so. Enjoy!

i don’t really like the idea of posting both in comments and on the new forum, but i guess i’ll do both since it’s a simple copy and paste, i enjoyed the original system of just commenting on the blog posts though…

I like the Billy Balls that everyone noticed in the meeting at the beginning of the ep with Adama and Roslin, then leading up to the awkward proposal with the debate team ring…

In the next scene, on Cloud 9, with Lee and Dee, is this the first time we get to see Dee all gussied up with teased hair, slinky dress and all? When Billy says to Dee that he’s with friends, does Billy have any friends other than Dee and Roslyn? We never see or hear about them and he doesn’t look to ANYONE other than the guy with the extra gun, Dee or Lee, the entire time as a hostage, also that seems to contradict what he says when he first sees Dee , that he’s there on “business.”

I love (the old pro) Ellen’s reaction to what she thinks is Lee’s bathroom hanky panky proposal, which she doesn’t seem too argumentative about (remember her behavior at the dinner party toward Lee on Galactica, during that first night she was brought over to the battlestar by Adama? She was all over him under the table!).

It’s funny hearing Tigh talking about Sharon as “just a machine… she always was” considering his current status as our favorite one-eyed Tighlon! Oh, the irony is glorious.

Man, it’s been a tough couple of weeks for Lee, last ep he’s being yo-yoed around by Kara, with her attempt at having him for just a good lay, then being slapped, her stealing his booze… cut to now, getting shot by her! Ouch, talk about your rough foreplay!

Then, the death of our favorite… Billy (it’s from this point on that we have to start missing him) and the reaction of Roslyn in the morgue to seeing up close, the death of her “son.” If we EVER see that clip in a Previously On Galactica montage in season 4, we know that Billy is slated for final 5 status, thus crumpling Roslyn’s soul to the core!

Finally, I love the dichotomy of scenes with Lee in a med bay bed, first in the ep where his viper got shot down and he had his spacewalk, it was Starbuck by his side with Dee looking on in the rafters at the two of them, this time with Dee by his side and Starbuck in the rafters. A great way to enhance the status of this love triangle (well, square if you include Anders… Pentagon, if you put Billy in the mix).

    Amen Leon…

I love this episode and hate it at the same time…

Dee is stupid for dissing Billy.. she would have been much better off being Billy’s widow then being Lee’s Starbuck replacement…

Starbuck shooting Lee was interesting, especially given the future relationship they have, and this time she came clean to the old man right away, unlike the whole thing with Zach. The look on Lee’s face was great…

Oh and Ellen… Ellen, Ellen, Ellen.. I am not sure what I find more humorous… that she would instantly go with Lee to the bathroom for a romp in the stall, or that Lee knew that was the quickest way to get her to the bathroom no questions asked… LOL Then she has the nerve to use her husband to try and get out of the situation… I think there is a quiet triumph in the fact that Tigh gets to off her…

The major problem I had with this episode is the woman leading the charge, and it kind of lends itself to what the caller said in the last podcast about the rest of the fleet lacking humanity. It was hard to find sympathy for her, since everyone in the fleet was no different from her, and yet we are supposed to get on board with her cause… ugh.. I also find it hard to believe that she would have been able to compile that much information about Sharon. Other then the news services, which everyone would have access too, where is she getting all this info…

    Lastly, Billly…
He finally came into his own in this episode, which was a sure sign from the beginning that he wouldn’t make it through alive, but it was nice to see that he got to pop off to the old man and I LOVED the comment that Roselyn made right after : “Someone took their vitamens today”…

Posting it old-school: Billy’s the final Cylon! He’ll come back as Super Billy. Probably not, but it’s nice to think about…

  5. Dave says:

Still gets to me when Roslyn sees Billys body, fixes his hair and says “He’s so young”.

Really dawned on me in this ep. that this was the last thing that tied Roslyn to the past and caprica. This death probably effects her more than any other.

Dee–liove ya–but what you did to Billy was cold. Not even a little mean, just straight cold.

  6. Starbuccaneer says:

I will never forgive Dee for being a jerko bitchface to Billy. And I never will.

  7. Pike says:

    Amen, Starbuccaneer.

Say it with me, everyone, NO FEELING SORRY FOR DEE!

  8. Adriana says:

It would be awesome if Billy did come back as the final cylon. And cut Dee some slack. It was just cold and mean hearted but ….. aww it was just bad. I can’t defend that. But still cut her some slack.

  9. Starbuccaneer says:

Actually, I’m pretty sure they wanted to keep Billy as a regular, rather than killing him to make way for Lee/Dee (people with the same or rhyming names shouldn’t be married, anyhow). Paul Campbell didn’t want to sign a 5 year contract, though, so he decided to leave the show. Considering that he’s become such a huge star it’s hard to say he made a bad choice…. oh wait. Yes he did.

  10. Starbuccaneer says:

Dave, re: your youtube link: Wow, Young Adama looks surprisingly like EJO! Perhaps even more than Bodie!

  11. adoracion says:

the YouTube clip has been removed… i’ve missed out! argh!

Lady D–i am so there with you! the whole thing felt forced then, and still does in my opinion.
