Site Upgrades/Hosting Outages

Please note: we’re in the process of adjusting our hosting service and Galactica Watercooler may experience brief outages. But don’t worry — we’re not going anywhere. We’re just working out some kinks to bring you the first of some of the planned GWC site upgrades.

Update #1: We’re deploying some of the changes. We’re poor, so we don’t have a dev server. We have to tweak while live. We very much appreciate your patience.

Explains why I haven’t been able to download the podcast through iTunes yet. Happy switching/upgrading, guys! 🙂

  2. Raemani says:

Kinda figured, but I have been going through withdrawls – haven’t been able to download the podcast.

Plus I have things to share from Dragon*Con (basically video of the panels and an interview one of our group did with Jamie) – I’ll send the links to you guys and we can post the links some where

  3. Dave says:

gotta love that there 21st century tek-no-loggy 🙂

  4. Solai says:

The sky is falling! The sky is falling! Aieeeeeeeee! Where did the website go? DEAR GOD IN HEAVEN…SAVE US ALL!

…wait, what was that first part?

  5. Racetracks Man says:

Well I stole Racetrak back whilst Armando wasnt looking, good luck on the upgrade

  6. PhantomOwl says:

I’m a long time listener and have been meaning to comment for a long time. I just wanted to say that when I visited the page today, my jaw dropped. It looks AWESOME!

  7. dave says:

    Very nice!!!!

  8. Gryper says:

Whoa! Well worth going through withdrawal over the wait. 🙂

  9. Shaymus22 says:

The Forum link! It does nothing! 😀

  10. Pike says:

Nice, Shaymus. Yeah, it doesn’t look that that or the store(?!) are enabled yet.

Hmm. Thought I posted this earlier, but the redesign is still a bit funky in Safari. The BG behind the posts and comments is very white. Looks like tranparency gone awry.

Other than that it looks fantastic. The banner is interesting. Is that a resurrection ship behind the logo? And where is that viper-cum-mecha ship from?

  11. Chuck says:

Shaymus22: Indeed. I’m posting about that right now.

Pike: Nope, the white background behind comments is on purpose. The smaller text hides in the image background on darker monitors, so the white background helps. There are actually no BSG components in the header (besides the similarity in logo font). It’s all Sean’s original work.

  12. Radio Picon says:

Nice! Right now it looks like cosmetic changes…there are probably more changes to come I guess?

Sean’s 3d art is very nice, but not BSG, are you worried about copyright problems in recreating vipers and stuff? I guess you have to be these days.

  13. Pike says:

Chuck, as long as it’s intentional!

RP, no, it’s different enough that they’re good. (Don’t get me started about copyright law. You wouldn’t like me ranting about copyright law.) Sean’s got more tricks up his sleeve than I realized. Remind me not to take quarter bets from him.

  14. Solai says:

Ooooh…colors changing…ground shifting…where will it end? Will any of us survive the transition? Dogs and cats, living together….MASS HYSTERIA!

  15. Armando says:

“Well I stole Racetrak back whilst Armando wasnt looking, good luck on the upgrade ”

    CURSES!!!!!!!

But hey, this is the new BSG after all. Surely we can learn something from Baltar, Six and Three?

  16. Armando says:

“. (Don’t get me started about copyright law. You wouldn’t like me ranting about copyright law.)”

Oh come on, as someone who benefits (well, theoretically anyway) from copyright law, I have to know. (Maybe when we finally get a DC meet up going?)

  17. Pike says:

Armando, yeah, it’s better in-person conversation. Speaking of, aren’t you back down soon?

  18. Raemani says:

OK, this is weird – same computer – I can log at work network, but not when I am home….but when I am on the work network from home – I can see it. To bad the work network blocks the podcast.

Chuck/Sean – any ideas, or it is just a timing thing – you can e-mail me since it seems I can only get on here occasionally.

Hurry – I am going into a bit of GWC withdraw.

  19. Chuck says:

Raemani: I’ll email you with some tips that might help.

  20. Raemani says:

Thanks Chuck – I’ll check it out when I get home…at least I am not alone, Armando is having similar issues with the work vs home. Several others that have posted over at Facebook can’t get on at all

I know some of the Mac users are having issues and several of the PC users are too. And I personally have tried with 2 versions of EI and Firefox

If I can get something to work I’ll post here and over there. I was shocked when using the same computer I could get on at work but not at home, unless I was on the work network – odd I tell ya – frakin Cylons have invaded my computers.

  21. Raemani says:

Well incase you come here first (I sent you an e-mail too), I am resolving to the correct IP address, but when I ping it, it comes back with basically server not responding.

  22. Armando says:

I tried pinging from home earlier today but got nothin’. I’m starting to fall behind on the blog as well as the podcast. Frackin’ cylons!

  23. Raemani says:

Well I am finally in at home – without doing anything – weird.

Chuck – I sent you an e-mail last night, but it bounced back at me – I’ll try and resend….of course most of it is a mute point (other then there a few people over at facebook who still can’t get on (or at least couldn’t as of earlier today).

I do have stories to tell and pictures to share, but that will have to wait until this weekend.

  24. Timbuck says:

Thank the gods! I’m finally on! The podcast is downloading–I smell goo.

I have been in sever withdrawal. I need the cast to get through my Sunday into Monday study time.

The site looks cool but I have not seen all of it yet. Can’t wait…
