In case you didn’t catch this in comments on this holiday weekend’s other BSG bad news post, here’s the latest rumor: Sci-Fi might sit on the final ten episodes of season four until February of 2009.
The rumor, originally posted on AICN, originated at DragonCon where an attendee says Aaron Douglas and Jamie Bamber dropped this bomb — before Bamber “ripped sci-fi … saying that the channel is not used to producing high-quality material and now that it has a hit, it doesn’t know what to do with it.”
Before we put together a mob to (virtually) march on the Sci-Fi offices, let’s keep in mind:
On the other hand:
Maybe we’d better queue up for that march after all.
Important Note: I linked the AICN article below, but beware — it contains other slight spoilers. If you want to avoid them, you can skip the link. I’ve mentioned the key parts relating to the delay.
WTF? Battlestar Galactica Finale To Air In 2009??!! [AICN]
Well, the upside is that it gives NBC time to realize that creating its own expensive video garden is a huge fraking mistake.
This makes me sad :o(
okay…the smilie face thing on here is stupid.
Is that Michael Douglas or Aaron Douglas?
LP, Heh. I missed that. It was Aaron.
Tanu, I’m with you (although it does prove that Sharon’s the coolest cylon—she’s number 8)
Leland/Pike: My bad. I was editing a podcast in the background when I wrote this post. Fixed — though I do need to see Wall Street again sometime soon.
I believe each ST show ran for 7 years except TOS…so what the frak is SciFi’s problem. People are starved for GOOD scifi and they take it off. BSG is the only show I actually watched on that channel.
Oy.
Hmm. Another person who was there is saying that it was a joke:

until 2009 in USA
what about spain? maybe 2010? noooooo
Well, let’s hope so, Pike. Cause I was ready to start sharpening my virtual pitchfork and march into Sci-Fi’s virtual castle.
IF Sci-Fi holds back the last 10 I am done with them. I love BSG and I Don’t like the feeling that we are going to be held over a pit so the network can make more money. I am happy with the show ending in season 4; I don’t want to wait a year for the show to go from 4.0 to 4.5. That’s all have a good day everyone.
It wouldn’t surprise me that they would want to squeeze out the fan base for a few more months. They’re done when BSG is over.
You know if they do delay it untill 09 I may just stop watching all together. Are they going to show it in January and then end it in the summer and then make us wait a zillion months to show us the end. I hope not, I can sell my DVD’s at the local game store and buy a few games with the money. I love the show but this is riduculous.
Well, at least we have Flash Gordon in the meantime.
(gag)
Stroogie, it’s not that bad!
I wonder if sci fi has realized that they can spin a ton of stuff off of B.G.? I mean star trek did it? I don’t know about everyone else, but I f-king love B.G., but I’m already thinking this is too long to wait, and I’m already kind of lost interest … I’m sure I’ll gain interest when it comes back on, but right now I’m bored with this …
Chuck: That sucks if it’s true.
Pike: I hope that user on Sci-Fi forum is right and it was a joke…a really bad and evil one.
Wolfshawk: Enterprise only lasted 4 seasons. They killed it with the craaaapola third season store arc.
Stroogie: I’ll stick to my DVD of the Flash Gordon movie with the Queen soundtrack instead, thanks. Yeah it’s pure camp, but hey that’s what’s so good about it. 🙂
I think they should bring back “Buck Rogers in the 25th Century” cause Erin Gray was HOT and Twiki rocks!!
heh heh …..NOT funny
Maybe this is RDM’s doing, after all he loved the Sopranos Series ending and if I remember rightly there the last episode of Season 5 was broadcast 0n 06/2004 and the first episode of Season 7 was broadcast on 03/2006.
Grand Puba, could you please clarify such? I am not sure I catch what you are saying. I may also be insufficiently caffeinated at this hour of morning too, though…
If I was Capt. Kirk, I’d say: KHAAANN!
If it’s true I’ll be royally pissed.
I’ll steal the craaaaapiest toaster from the teacher’s lounge at work and mail it to them. With a limburger grilled cheese sandwich in it. There!
My heart skipped a beat when I saw Audra’s “Top 10.” If true, can you imagine the efforts necessary to maintain secrecy until the episodes are finally broadcast?
Likely an attempt at (cruel) humor. Much like the rumor that Matt Damon was slated to play the young Kirk. Whew!
OK – I was actually at both of the panels since I just got home from Dragon Con from where these reports came from. It is hard to say since both Aaron Douglas and Jamie Bamber have a wicked sense of humor….and they are among the nicest actors – they are very down to earth and easy to talk to.
I would say that there is a distinct possibility that we may have another long hiatus. Aaron, Jamie and Richard Hatch all stated that it is a possibility and one thing that was discussed when the were neogiating for a season 5.
As for extending it, they writers are now working on writing the ending now and filming will wrap in March.
I was with a group that has ALL of the BSG panels on video and will let you know if/when we upload them or get them transcribed – if you guys want to see them. Yes there were some very minor spoilers (and I mean VERY minor).
A couple people I was with also had press passes and had interviews with Jamie (and the one had interviews with Mark and Aaron too).
I am to tired to type more now – but I had an AMAZING time and they are some really great people
Mother-Frakkers.
Well, who knows? Perhaps this passage has taken some time to consider in terms of working into the Baltar storyline:
http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Acts%2017:16-34;&version=46;
The passage is Acts 17:16-34 which is Paul visiting the Areopagus making his speech. Considering where Baltar’s plot went in the third season this would seem a natural jumping off point. It would seem hard to re-write for screen, though, unless the infamous “Cottonpatch Translation” were utilized as inspiration.
Raemani Says: OK – I was actually at both of the panels since I just got home from Dragon Con from where these reports came from.
Well I guess I’ll stop searching YouTube for videos then. I wondered why I was only seeing stuff from previous years. Didn’t stop to think that maybe it might be a good idea to google Dragoncon to see when it was being held…..blonde moment!
Raemani – I’m looking forward to hearing about it! Thanks for the updates!
You have GOT to be KIDDING!!! Those sorry mother-frakkers!!! I’ll beat them like Tigh beat Bulldog if they do that.
I forgot to say – GWC crew – I bet members of the cast would be willing to do interviews with you guys – they did several at Dragon*Con for various people. Heck Jamie did one for a couple of the girls I was staying with.
Aaron Douglas is a riot…and him and Jamie and Mark together were a hoot.
They seem to LOVE to interact with the fans, going out of their way to make everyone feel special.
I plan to try and write everything up (as well as gather reports from my friends who where there with me) and send them to you. It was an amazing experience. They were ver accessible and talked to everyone for as long as they could – and we weren’t rushed at all.
wow….another genius decision by SciFi….(if the rumor is true, of course)
Frak!!! bunch of Craaaap is what it is. I still remain the Fan of BSG that I have become, if I have to wait till 2008,2009,2010 to get resolution of the series, then so be it but I gotta say, how are the gonna stretch 10 episodes over an entire year, just to show 4.5 the following year… Bunch of Craaaap! So say we all!
Ten episodes equals ten weeks. Ten weeks is two and a half months if the first ten are run uninterrupted. Who knows? With two rounds of Who Wants To Be a Superhero? to be finished up as of Thursday there may be one-off bits interspersed among BSG to stretch it to the summer.
I am not sure that would be a good thing, though. Of course, an increased presence of ECW on Sci-FI could cause this as well. ECW has a good Sci-Fi basis to me due to the pharamcological matters that undergird much of it happening…but alas…
I was also at these panels and I can add the following:
1) Aaron started off the Sunday morning panel with “I was not joking last night; they are seriously talking about saving episodes until 09.” He was very strong to say that he was NOT joking.
2) Bamber is very cool and we got a “This is Jamie Bamber and you’re listening to…” for our own little podcast from him. He even did a couple of takes until he felt he had it right. Now getting in touch with him could be hard.
3) Sci Fi did not cancel BSG. As I believe was said at the panel, they couldn’t PROMISE Moore another season after #4 so he decided that he would rather end after that then risk planning for a season 5 and not getting it. As I understood it, the plan was not to cut off BSG but when pressured to commit to a 5th season, Sci Fi balked. I’m not sure I’d TOTALLY flavor them EEEvil just yet.
