As a number of you have astutely noticed, our current re-watch schedule runs a tad bit slow in terms of reaching a target of completing the entire canon just shy of season four. Now that we’ve reached the end of season one,we wanted to take a minute to update you on our plan.
And unlike the Cylons in season three, we do have a plan.
First of all, we’re combining all two-part episodes into a single re-watch week. These are more fun to watch together anyway. Next, we’ve succumbed to the (correct) pressure and created an official Google calendar for the re-watch:
As you can see from the calendar, we’re currently finishing up season three in February. While official sources say we’ll receive season four in “early 2008,” we (sadly) can’t assume that means January 1st. So this schedule might work fine. Then again, we’re also going to need to devote some time to Razor in November, so we may need tocompress the schedule a bit more.
That’s really why we created the Google calendar. There’s no way for us to know at this moment how we’re going to need to handle, say, September’s re-watch schedule. We’ll have to talk it out here on GWC.com and adjust as we go to make sure we’re all caught up and ready for Razor and season four.
So subscribe to the Google calendar and you’ll automatically be privvy to the new sh… tuff.
PS: We’re setting up for the commentary ‘casts now and should be recording in an hour or so. Look for more of this weekend’s podcasting extravaganza later today.
Update: Sorry about issues with the button. I’ll troubleshoot them as soon as we’re done recording today’s commentary episodes. One down, one to go!
Update #2: The button works fine — which shouldn’t surprise me so much as it’s a direct copy of Google’s code — but you must be logged into your google calendar when you click it. Then it offers you the opportunity to subscribe.
Speaking of rewatches, for those of us without Tivo, have you guys heard anything about the season 3 DVD release? Bear McCreary started a rumor of an August release, but it’s July 1 and no street date has been announced, that I’m aware of. Am I going to have to re-watch season 3 online? Say it ain’t so!
Amazon announces nothing as to a date as of this morning. I have hunkered down and dealt with iTunes at times. With the exception of no sub-titles the quality is about as good as what one gets on DVD which has had me happy. Of course, when Mark Sheppard did his bonus commentaries…the background noise sounded suspiciously like a very noisy video iPod. He acted on the show and could not even have access to DVDs like RDM would have in making his commentaries.
Huh. Following that link for the google calendar didn’t work. I got a “You do not have access to GWC BSG Re-Watch Schedule’s calendar” message.
However, it dumps you onto your own calendar, and from there you can “add other calendars”, search for Galactica Watercooler, and add it that way.
Odd. My posts with html aren’t showing up. Testing…
It doesnt work for me. It says I dont have access to it and when I searched for it, it didnt show up.
From your google calendar page, click on the ADD button on the lower left (over My Calendars) then choose “Add a public calendar” and search for “Galactica” (no Watercooler) and it’ll show up as about the seventh choice.
I tried just posting the link, but that didn’t work. Chuck’s probably clamping down on some of the odd spam posts that have been showing up.
All: Finally done with #52 and I got a minute to check out the button. As I posted in the update, it actually works fine — you just have to be logged into your Google calendar when you click the link for it to work.
Hey — it’s Google’s code, not mine!
Podcast #51 in just a minute, and #52 is now in post.
Chuck, it doesn’t work with either Safari or Firefox on a Mac, regardless of your logged-into-google status. What setup are you using?
The manual-add instructions I posted above should work, however.
(No prob, Lady D!)
I was able to add it, but not able to see anything in either Firefox or IE. I am guessing nothing has been put into the calendar just yet?
Hmm. I’ve got KLG part 2 listed for this week, but nothing past that. However, the previous weeks’ are listed.
It’s the same in Safari, FFox, and iCal on my Powerbook.
Welcome, Lady Disdain and Danielle!
What happens after we subscribe? The calendar still looks blank to me.
Lady Disdain – Glad we could help! And another teacher – there are few of us here around the ‘cooler.
As far as the Macs go – don’t worry. Once the iPhones and iPods have taken over the universe (granted, because they’re far superior and cooler) you won’t have to deal with being left out. A Mac will become president and then everyone will have to switch, including Google calendars! 😉
” Once the iPhones and iPods have taken over the universe ”
The iPhone was created by Steve Jobs.
It evolved.
There are many copies.
And they have a plan.
Mike P, I’m with you! I added the calendar, but it still looks blank to me. 🙁
Chuck, you guys rock! I can’t tell you how many hours (about 75, I guess) I’ve spent snickering and laughing out loud with you. On the few nights I battle insomnia, it’s great to have some company to have a good time with. Keep up the good work! (And I don’t care if Audra is cooler and Sean is snarkier; you’re the rock of the podcast!)
There it is, Chuck IS “The Rock.” Cue music…
Should add, as of now the calendar is still blank after last week.
Pike/All: Are you seeing anything now? I was a hoser and had the dates in the wrong calendar. Doh!
If you see it, let me know. Then I’ll attack the problem of finding a good link since the one from Google obviously doesn’t work…
Ah, there was another calendar…
OK, both are still public. The “Battlestar Galactica Rewatch” one is the one I was using (it comes up first when you search.) That one still ends after last week.
The “GWC BSG Rewatch” one works, but the events are Monday events instead of the week-long events in the other calendar. This format makes it a bit hard to read in week and month views. I assume this is the correct calendar.
Yep, the new calendar works, but as Pike notes, the events come up on Monday.
