A Post Meetup Shout Out

I would like to take this opportunity to give a super shout out to Phil and Lisa for coming out to meet us in San Francisco last night. Though we have seen interesting sights and met all kinds of cool people, for me the highlight of the trip has been meeting Galactica fans that share my fever for BSG.

Phil and Lisa proved without a shadow of a doubt that they are hardcore GWC fans by manhandling the long drive and arriving to a city they had never been to armed only with a slightly worn google map and awesome BSG theories.

They of course recognized Chuck straight away because he is six foot one and commands attention wherever he goes with his silver hair and huge smile. Luckily for us, he also looks exactly like his pic on the site so Lisa picked him out of the tiny, crowded bar instantly.

I thoroughly enjoyed rapping with friendly people whose sci-fi cravings were aligned with ours and hashing out a few opinions over a beer or two. This is the reason we started GWC and it seems that no matter where you are there are awesome people who like to get together and discuss our favorite show.

Also, thanks to Phil and Lisa for making us feel welcome so far away from home! You guys are frakking awesome!

~Sean

    Hey Sean and Chuck-

The pleasure’s all ours! Of course we had to follow through with the opportunity to meet up with 2/3rds of the team that manages to increase our enjoyment of what is already our favorite show.

We can attest that it that it takes very little imagination to picture the faces behind the voices, because the avatars for Chuck and Sean are dead on. We had a great time and look forward to more interaction on the GWC.

    Good Hunting.

ps: Did the Chinese restaurant live up to its billing?

  2. Gray says:

Glad everybody had a good time!

If yall ever have anything planned in the Houston area I’d love to catch up wit ya.

  3. BoxytheBoxed says:

Ya know in Otlando theres Disney*hinthitn winkwink*

  4. Armando says:

If you’re ever near Syracuse or Washington, D.C. (although you’ll have to check with me to see if I’m there. Or you could go check out my “band’s” calendar for next year, which should be up at http://www.greatnoiseensemble.com any day now) I’d love to say hello and possibly even discuss the latest theories over some ambrosia.

  5. Armando says:

Sorry about the little bit of spam there, by the way. But after my call to the podcast a couple of weeks ago, I figure the regulars might be interested.

  6. Pike says:

Armando, I’ll try to make it out to one of your shows, it’s nice to see something happening on this side of the country!

  7. Audra says:

Phil and Lisa – I heard you guys had a great time! Since Chuck and Sean were in SF on business I wasn’t along for the ride, but I was there in spirit. 🙂 And I just knew you’d recognize Chuck. He always downplays it but he’s the recognizable one, hehe.

Armando – My whole life I grew up north of Syracuse and nothing ever happened. Finally I got away and now somebody interesting is there!

Gray – We’re in DFW but will definitely announce if we’re in the area!

  8. Audra says:

Boxy – No plans to head to Orlando as far as I know. Besides, I’m scared of the big rat!

Are you safely away from all those wildfires?

  9. Armando says:

Actually Audra, I’m east of Syracuse in one of the suburbs of (the extremely New-Caprican) Utica. I’ve been too busy teaching and carting myself back and forth between here and DC, but I’m trying to start getting myself connected around here.

Pike-if you do come to one of our shows, stop by and say hello. You might like some of what we’re doing at the Capital Fringe Festival this summer. Kind of a blend of rock and avant garde classical music. It’s loads of fun! Just make sure you say hi. One thing I like about this forum is how much of a sense of community it has managed to maintain, and I’d love to be able to put a face and voice to your words. 🙂

  10. Gray says:

    Audra-

You guys upset about the Mavs, or totally over it?

And next time you hit up Houston, definitely let us know. I happened to be downtown today to watch my beloved Astros fall to the Rangers.

Anyway, hope everybody has a good week!

Ah ha, I knew it! Phil said that the images are dead on for Chuck and Sean. I just knew that Chuck wore a BSG officer’s uniform in public. 🙂

  12. Leon Kensington says:

And a sidearm, it has gotten him in trouble a few times.

  13. Browncoat_Bryan says:

Yeah, I second Armando. If you’re in the DC area, let me know. Although I live a little south of DC, I’m always willing to make the trip up there.

  14. Phil says:

    Hey Audra-

We’re sorry to have missed you. We would have really liked to have met you too. I was great to meet the ‘recognizable’ one and the ‘artistic’ one, but of course we won’t know the whole GWC gang until we meet the ‘smart’ one (as Chuck and Sean readily admit) too. If you guys ever make it out this way again definitely let us know.

    Phil

  15. Scottish Jamie says:

Just out of curiosity and apologies in advance for heading down a rathole – the whole discussion about being recognisable makes me wonder: is there a reason you guys haven’t posted photos? Is it a deliberate decision?

There is nothing wrong with a bit of mystery in my book and I have to say the avatars are very smart. How did they come about?

My nosiness and impertinent questions are without bounds today it seems.

  16. The 13th Cylon says:

Well, you see, those are their actual pictures. That’s why they’re so easy to recognize. Chuck, Audra, and Sean are actually cartoons living in our world. It’s kind of like that movie “Who Framed Roger Rabbit?”.

  17. Pike says:

    Actually, that explains a lot…

  18. Timbuck says:

According to that logic, one of them is the 5th Final Five Cylon. But which one??? This ought to be good!

    My guess is Chuck.

  19. 13th Cylon says:

I’d say Audra. We’ll just have to wait and see who starts appearing on infomercials for Cylon Goo (“Cylon Goo- good for you!” jingle).

  20. Leon Kensington says:

No man, definately Sean! He’s the strong silent type…and I could see him doing the drunk Anders stuff.

  21. Timbuck says:

I’m worried about Chuck. He recently admitted he was a closet Hot Dog fan and now he shows up in San Francisco. Hmmmm. I guess Sean is there is there to document Chuck’s newly discovered self. I doubt he was hearing Watchtower though; maybe “It’s Raining Men”.

Just kidding dude. Just jonesin’ for #44!

  22. Techie says:

Armando, I go to school in Saratoga Springs, so if you are ever playing in the area lemme know.

P.S. Following up on Timbuck, is 44 due to come out soon? Its 4 30 AM and I cant sleep i need some watercooler to put me to bed.

  23. Armando says:

Techie, I have a recital scheduled for October 21 in Clinton. I know it’s a couple of hours away, but I can keep you posted if you’re serious. Although I’ve gotta warn you, it ain’t your daddy’s classical music. 😉

(Sorry, that’s sort of one of my group’s current ad campaigns. Kind of an inside joke…with MYSELF! Okay, enough procrastinating…)

  24. Techie says:

Haha, well I will have to see one school starts up again, I might have a show of my own opening that weekend.

  25. Armando says:

Well, I’ll keep you posted. I’ve been trying not to mention things like this on this site, since, frankly, it’s a fun place to “not be on,” you know? But, if you (or anyone else) is interested, I can send you to the appropriate web site(s)/My Space page(s).

But that’s the only thing I’ve got coming up in upstate NY. I’ve only been here a year, so I’m only now starting to get connected (splitting time between two cities doesn’t help in that area, mind you).

  26. adoracion says:

    hey guys, we’re hungry.

    44….44….44…
