What were they smoking?

Just a quick note as the new podcast finishes rendering behind me… During the flashback tonight when the Adama and Roslin were standing together drinking and smoking, Adama asked the question, “They grow this here?”

Were they talking about the drink or the smoke? After recording the podcast tonight, Audra mentioned that she thought he might be talking about whatever they were smoking. At the time, I thought they were taking about the drink.

What’s your take?

Podcast soon!

I thought they were talking about the drink. There was some talk on New Caprica about orchards for fruit, if I remember correctly, which is where they get some delicious juice… and apparently some hard cider too. And then, Rozzy started talking about water…. which makes sense to me, since I grew up in a brewery town.

*wzzm, wzzm* (the sound of my cylon eye, looking at you)

  2. Arktis says:

They were smoking chamala. Trippy stuff, as you might know.

  3. Browncoat Bryan says:

I think they were hittin’ the New Caprica weed. It’s much better than the Whitney or the Bobby. But not as good as the Snoop….

  4. Leon Kensington says:

I thought it was the drink, but with what happened later with those to just lying there and strategically placed chins over other parts it very may well be the smoke.

  5. Martha says:

I was under the impression it was whatever they were smoking. whether it’s a native plant, or one they’re cultivating… could be wrong, though.

  6. Audra says:

My favorite part: Laura takes the smoke from Bill and just as she raises it to her mouth the camera cuts away. What a great tease; it looked like they were trying to cover up that they were sharing it. Funny!

  7. john patrick says:

The RDM podcast confirms that they were getting baked.

    (yo soy cylon)

  8. Browncoat Bryan says:

Oh, heck yeah, John Patrick. They were toking the Caprica joint. I just heard the podcast, too. Bong Hits 4 Adama!!!

  9. Lt. Slingshot says:

When Adama asks “You say this stuff grows around here?” and then a bit later throws down his smoke, gives a little exhale and says “It’s good” That just cracked me up. And when they were lying on the ground I kept waiting for Samuel L Jackson to walk by and say…

“You two a coupla Cheech and Chongs, ain’t ya?”

  10. Dan, the Lord of Kobol says:

Yeah, John Patrick’s right. If you listen to the RDM podcast for the episode, at about sixteen minutes in Moore and Grace Park start talking about what Adama’s smoking. He never comes out and says it, but it’s *heavily* implied that Adama was hitting the MJ.

I am *stunned*. Adama and Roslin are tokers. Madness, I tells ya.

  11. Jaz says:

They were definitely smoking some sort of ganga, probably more like peyote. Nice writing…I loved how this gave us more insight into the characters and their need to let their hair down. My only question is did Laura and Adama get it on or what???

  12. Cavatar says:

They were so getting baked…I think it was great they hid them getting high on the show.

  13. Baltar The Great says:

Yea it was chamala. Anybody know the going rate on that stuff? I thought it was funny they were getting stoned.

  14. The 13th Cylon says:

I am so terribly naive that I thought it was a cigar. On the RDM podcast, Grace Park thought it was too, so I guess it’s just a Cylon thing.

  15. NY Spinny says:

Yeah, it was totally obvious to me they were toking. Look at how they were hiding it from clean-living Gaeta. “I thought he’d never go away,” indeed. I bet they were both Caprica-hippies in their college days.

  16. james says:

the show is primarily filmed in B.C. Canada, and as such i feel this was just a tip of the hat to the growers of ganga there…….

  17. james says:

    ***also really cool ! 🙂

  18. james says:

and hence “they grow this here?”
