Ghosts In The Light

An interesting thing came up in the podcast tonight. Ok a lot of “interesting” things came out of the cast tonight, but I think one issue that stuck home with me is the ghosts in the light that appeared before D’anna when she was popped by the bullet-head.

There are several theories running around the net (or internets if you’re a Bush fan) on this occurrence. The first is that they were just visual effects trickery and Ron Moore screwing with our noodle and while he does tend to do that, I’ll go on record as saying that is prolly not the case. Others think they are boxed cylon that can’t return to the others and reside there. There are quite a few explanations floating about in the BSG ether.

One theory that caught my ear (and keep in mind this is pretty far reaching – but I actually prefer it) is that the ghosts are the other five models that evolved past corporeal form and that they are the reason the dead Cylon are guided back across the digital river Styx so to speak. Perhaps these “higher” models live in a space that the other 7 just have trouble understanding and navigating through. I love this whole idea just because it would add a whole other level of complexity and further bog Cylon behavior down into the depths of mystery and confusion.

I just get the feeling however unverifiable though it may be that we are meant to see the other 5 Cylon models or understand what or who they are this season. Perhaps it’s just a fervent wish or maybe I’m just still reeling from all the Tryptophan in the turkey.

I really like that last theory. That would really be an interesting way to move the series forward. I wonder if Head Six couldn’t turn out to either be a Final Five cylon or in league with them?

  2. Browncoat Bryan says:

That would be an interesting twist, although I would find it odd that the other Seven aren’t allowed to or “don’t” talk about them. It would seem to me that they would be willing to talk about them.

What if the Five could possess a body and make it do weird things, Exorcist-style? Can you imagine Cavil doing the exorcism?

  3. Ken says:

Six said they don’t talk about them, but it might be out of respect. Or else what they do is not clearly understood by the Seven. We’ll just have to wait I guess. Hopefully it will be this season.

Well it looks like the second theory that you listed is not too farfetched. I just read a interesting little spoiler from the upcoming tv guide that mentions D’anna’s trip and the “specters” she saw. As mentioned in the prievious podcast her character is really getting deeper and more complex every episode and it really makes the cylons more and more intruiging.

    You know, it’s funny…

For the longest time after I saw Torn, I had no idea why people were still discussing who the final five models were. I don’t know why, but for some reason I thought that the Baseship-hybrids were the eighth model!

But I just rewatched part of Torn, and although it is slightly implied that the hybrids constitute the eighth model, Caprica-Six specifically mentions that they *never* speak of the other five models… then she goes and talks about the hybrids with the other models and Baltar for the rest of the episode.

Omg… What the hell was I thinking.

Has anyone thought about the possibility, that the unknown five cylons may be the Lords of Kobol??? Just another theory, of course 🙂

  7. james says:

    to Peegee10,
i think u might be on to something there, because if the cylon god is singular, and the remaining 5 humanoid cylons are actually the polytheistic human gods, (and the cylon god is jealous) so then that could be the reason the cylons dont talk about the remaining five models. (and why number 3 sees them bathed in light implying that they are “holy” beings)

  8. james says:

and maby the cylon’s dont talk about them because in an ancient time they decided that all life was sacred, and therfore allied themselves with the humans…..just spitballing here 🙂

  9. BoxytheBoxed says:

so its like the Anchets from Stargate…….never mind there still boxed to me. damn cylons make cheap boxes

  10. Hybridoflight says:

I like that theory and have thought of it myself. The thing I find curious is the music playing on board the Cylon Base star’s. Isn’t it interesting that Kara Trace’s father played piano too? Remember, when she was in her apartment on Caprica and she played that disc of her father’s music? And now she drew the eye of jupiter too? There’s too many coincidences surround Capt. Trace.

All this has happened before and all this will happen again… Maybe the human race is the offspring of an ancient human/mechanical beings and it’s coded in human evolution to create then merge with cylons to achieve a higher state of being.

I think, Kara is either a cylon/human hybrid unknow to the other seven models, or she has bloodlines back to these original ancient “beings of light” aka ancient human/cylon race aka the gods that begot the human race.
