The Return of Laura Roslin

Laura Roslin has already had one miraculous return from near-oblivion; it’s time she returns to a leadership role in the Resistance and gets back to leading humanity to its destiny. Down on New Caprica, we know she’s gone back to teaching school – a noble profession even for former presidents. But surely she’s not going to stand by reading My Pet Goat while the Resistance marches on. This is her chance to re-establish herself as the supremely capable leader she is and help figure out how they’re going to escape, trick, or conquer the Cylon force on the planet and high-tail it back to Galactica, Fat Lee, and freedom.

Go Laura Go!

I find it interesting that they never actually say that she’s had a school teaching background. Obviously a large extent of it has been in politics, first serving Adar’s Governor campaign and of course through his Presidency. Either way, she’s a school teacher now. My Pet Goat, lol!

I’ll be interested to see if Roslin is able to rise to leadership of the same degree. She’ll always be a leader of some sort, it’s part of her character. Remember her take charge attitude on Colonial Heavy 798 in the miniseries?

Galactica, Fat Lee and freedom! HA!! Audra, you crack me up!

Thanks for your reply! Glad you liked the post. As far as Roslin being a teacher before her political career, in the Season 2.5 episode (can’t remember which one off the top of my head) – I think the one where Laura is saved by the Cylon baby’s blood – she has a number of flashbacks and memories as she’s dying in the hospital. These include a series of talks with President Adar and the leader of the teachers’ union, and she tells the union leader “I was a teacher before I was the Secretary of Education” in order to gain his confidence and let him know she understands. So even though it’s a quick reference, we do have confirmation that she was a teacher in the past as well.

Hrm… wow, I totally missed this reference. We haven’t gotten there yet in our re-watch marathon. We’ve got a lot of episodes to cover today to get caught up so we get them all in before the season starts. I’ll have to pay closer attention in those scenes. That was in the episode ‘Epiphanies’ I believe.
