We had a great time at the San Francisco meetup, and I remember a few people asking for Texas — you know, “central coast” — meetups. Are any of you interested in maybe getting together somewhere around Dallas in the next few weeks?
If so, let us know in comments and we’ll see if we can pick a day/place/time where all three of us can make it — and as many of you can as well. If not, we’ll just see you on the podcast as usual.
We’re getting ready to record as I’m typing this, so you’ll definitely see a GWC podcast tonight.
I would like to take this opportunity to give a super shout out to Phil and Lisa for coming out to meet us in San Francisco last night. Though we have seen interesting sights and met all kinds of cool people, for me the highlight of the trip has been meeting Galactica fans that share my fever for BSG.
Phil and Lisa proved without a shadow of a doubt that they are hardcore GWC fans by manhandling the long drive and arriving to a city they had never been to armed only with a slightly worn google map and awesome BSG theories.
They of course recognized Chuck straight away because he is six foot one and commands attention wherever he goes with his silver hair and huge smile. Luckily for us, he also looks exactly like his pic on the site so Lisa picked him out of the tiny, crowded bar instantly.
I thoroughly enjoyed rapping with friendly people whose sci-fi cravings were aligned with ours and hashing out a few opinions over a beer or two. This is the reason we started GWC and it seems that no matter where you are there are awesome people who like to get together and discuss our favorite show.
Also, thanks to Phil and Lisa for making us feel welcome so far away from home! You guys are frakking awesome!
~Sean
As you’ll hear in GWC Podcast #41, Sean and I — getting a little punchy toward the end of the ‘cast — laid down a quarter bet on the following question which we hope you’ll answer for us:
Who’s “cooler?”
- Darth Vader: 59% (197 votes)
- Gaius Baltar: 41% (135 votes)
Total Votes: 332
Sure, this is likely to land us the same kind of press as the one-off “Galactica vs. Enterprise” comment got us, but hey — we were tired, it was the end of the week, and a bet is a bet.
To be fair to Sean, I’ll post my own arguments in comments where he can do the same.
Note: This poll is closed — and I frackin’ lost. But thanks for all your participation in settling the issue!
This is just a quick note to let you know that GWC Podcast #37 — the “bonus” second listener podcast we promised Sunday — is in post right now and should be out shortly.
It’s another long ‘cast, mainly because we received so many great calls that we just didn’t have time to include all of them – even in this hour-plus bonus ‘cast. Don’t sweat it, though: after this ‘cast we’ll return to our normal about-an-hour length so you’ll have time to digest it all each week. We figured that between the mind-blowing season finale and the great listener calls, it was worth extending a bit.

As you heard in GWC Podcast #36, one astute listener caught the appearance of an actual Galactica watercooler during the “Cylon reveal” in the season finale. Like you, we dove for the TiVo to see it for ourselves. For those of you without a copy, another listener sent us a great screenshot of the moment. (Thanks, Jeremiah!)
Some have written in suggesting that this item’s appearance isn’t an accident, but I personally can’t believe that. Regardless, it’s good fun, and we got a big kick out of it.
It’s been a crazy week here at GWC as we’ve been sorting through all the awesome calls we received for this week’s listener cast, so first off let me offer a hearty thank you to everyone who took the time to call or send us audio. This week’s ‘cast is in post right now, but we had so many calls that we’re actually planning a bonus ‘cast mid-week to fit more of ‘em in.
But to the point: Here’s the lowdown on the season one re-watch as promised.
Each week we’ll post a “Frak Party” for the current week’s re-watch episode. As you watch the episode during the week, go ahead and post your comments. (There really aren’t any spoilers in the re-watch, so post whenever you happen to watch.) We have a variety of different podcasts scheduled for the off-season including guests, commentary, etc., so sometimes we’ll discuss the episode at the end of the week and sometimes we’ll gather a few re-watch episodes together for a single podcast. Don’t worry, though: you’ll receive a podcast each week, and you’ll have plenty of opportunity to contribute and participate!
Here’s the initial schedule for season one, starting this week:
- Week of 4/2: The Mini-Series
- Week of 4/9: 33 (101)
- Week of 4/16: Water (102)
- Week of 4/23: Bastille Day (103)
- Week of 4/30: Act of Contrition (104)
- Week of 5/7: You Can’t Go Home Again (105)
- Week of 5/14: Litmus (106)
- Week of 5/21: Six Degrees of Separation (107)
- Week of 5/28: Flesh and Bone (108)
- Week of 6/4: Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down (109)
- Week of 6/11: The Hand of God (110)
- Week of 6/18: Colonial Day (111)
- Week of 6/25: Kobol’s Last Gleaming, Pt. 1 (112)
- Week of 7/2: Kobol’s Last Gleaming, Pt. 2 (113)
Look for this week’s Frak Party post right after the podcast releases — shortly! — and we’re looking forward to the start of your friendly neighborhood spider BSG support group.
Note: Next Sunday’s podcast will be the commentary for “33,” which co-incides with the re-watch. So, if you like we can actually watch the episode together. We’ll run the podcast past the end of the episode, of course, to talk about the mini-series and everything else that’s going on this week.

Here’s the poll for selecting the season three episodes for off-season GWC commentary tracks.Â
This works just like the season one poll and season two poll (which you should vote in if you haven’t already): vote for the episode for which you’d most like to hear a GWC commentary below. We’ll leave the poll active for a while, then plan on recording commentary for the top two episodes.
Note: We’ll have add’l podcasts to cover the organized “re-watch.” These will be separate commentaries timed to the episode so you can watch along with us.

Here’s the poll for selecting the season two episodes for off-season GWC commentary tracks.Â
This works just like the season one poll (which you should vote in if you haven’t already): vote for the episode for which you’d most like to hear a GWC commentary below. We’ll leave the poll active for a while, then plan on recording commentary for the top two episodes.

Based on your suggestions we’re planning to record full-length commentaries for two episodes for each of season one, season two, and season three. These “commentaries” will differ from our standard podcasts in that we’ll actually record as we re-watch the episode. The idea is that you can start the ‘cast along with the episode and enjoy it right along with us.
We have some other fun planned, including an organized re-watch of the entire series to date, guests, listener ‘casts, and more, but we wanted to go ahead and ask you which episodes you’d like us use for our commentary tracks.
Here’s the plan: vote for the episode for which you’d most like to hear a GWC commentary below. We’ll leave the poll active for a while, then plan on recording commentary for the top two episodes.
For those who asked for the outro music from Podcast #32, here ’tis in 192k MP3 format:
Outro Music/Podcast #32: “Here In CIC”
The good news: Audra seems interested in doing some more of these during the off-season, so with any luck — and your encouragement — she’ll come up with some other good ideas for ‘em. Of course, if you’d like to share some of yours, feel free!

We apologize for the periodic outages GWC’s expereinced today and yesterday. According to our hosting service, they were struck by lightning and had to replace the power to the rack in which our server lives. Since then, they’ve been performing other electrical maintenance and correcting related software issues, which has kept GWC intermittant throughout the day.
They tell us, however, that it should be resolved shortly.
Welcome
GWC is a community of friendly people who enjoy and participate in geekdom as a whole. We are young and old, female and male, writers and readers, teachers and students, philosophers and skeptics, Browncoats and Trekkies, outside continents and beyond countries -- and we have one thing in common: passionate, shameless enthusiasm.
We’re interested in TV shows, movies, comics, novels, gaming, science, and music. We’re interested in each other. We like to chat about just about any topic. We’ll listen and give informed feedback, and at the end of the day we think of GWC as a clubhouse for a (very large) group of friends.
