Firefly Frak Parties — Sundays In The GWC Forum!

If you’re a Firefly fan — or have always wanted to be one — your Sundays just got very shiny! Joss Whedon’s beloved Sci-Fi series is about to land in GWC’s Community Frak Parties forum thread. And those well-versed in the ‘verse know what that means: time to hold on tight!
Starting Sunday, August 9th, at 2pm Eastern/11am Pacific, GWCers can log in, link up, and chat in the Firefly Frak Party thread as we begin a weekly watch of the 2002 hit series Firefly.

Think sci-fi on TV means just Star Trek? Don’t forget Babylon 5! To me, Babylon 5 shows the real potential of television: long running stories with vast complexities over many seasons. Writer/director J. Michael Straczynski paved the way for shows like Lost, Heroes, Firefly, and our beloved Battlestar Galactica.
Sure, the effects haven’t held up well — though they were cutting edge during production. But the story’s richness and density makes up for that shortcoming. B5 is ultimately a show about survival, relationships, loyalty, friendship, politics, and war. It’s a show about what it means to lose your way and what happens when you subvert your ideals. It’s about the fall from grace and the fight to put justice in its rightful place — powerful themes and ideas.
There’s also a lot of fun and explosions. What’s not to like?
We’re currently re-watching the entire season in community frak parties every Saturday night at 10 p.m. ET. Why not come join us? Right now we’re finishing up the first season — available on Hulu, by the way — and having seen it all before I can tell you that if you jump in now you can follow along easily.

Watch Season 1 & 2 Free [Hulu]

Warehouse 13 premieres tonight and I’m kind’ve stoked about it. Every time I see it I’m absolutely positive somebody had the same thought many of us had when watching Indiana Jones when we were a kid; “What the hell is in all those other crates and what do they do with them?” Now – we’ll know!

It’s Friday night during Galactica season, which means new BSG and frak parties galore. Regardless of how you’re planning to watch, be sure to choose the correct frak party for your viewing time zone to avoid spoilers:
- Here’s the party for those of you watching via SciFi’s “streaming preview.”
- Here’s the party for everyone watching the show at 10 p.m. ET/9 p.m. CT tonight. The thread’s open, so feel free to get in the mood there (sans spoilers, of course).
- And here’s the party for those of you out on the West coast catching the PT broadcast.
And, of course, you’ve still got a little bit to slip in a last-minute call under the wire for tonight’s podcast by calling us at 214-296-9229. See you on the parties tonight!

As if you don’t have enough crazy plans for tonight’s momentous launch of season four, your friends at GWC have a few more options for you:
First, we’re hosting online frak parties in the GWC forum for all real-time viewing options:
- If you want to party during the SciFi streaming broadcast at noon ET today, click here.
- If you want to party during the 10 p.m. ET/9 p.m. CT broadcast, click here.
- If you want to party during the 10 p.m. PT delayed broadcast, click here.
And at 11:45 p.m. ET/10:45 p.m. CT we’re delivering GWC Podcast #94 LIVE via TalkShoe.com.
- To listen via real-time streaming, visit this page at TalkShoe.com.
- To listen remotely if you’re away from your computer — like, say, at work — you can dial into the call at (724) 444-7444. Enter call ID 17428 when requested.
- Better yet, you can even interact in real-time with the GWC crew, just like calling a radio show! if you sign up for a TalkShoe.com account (free) you’ll receive a PIN. By entering the PIN when requested after you dial the number above, you’ll show up in our call panel by name (or handle, or whatever you select in the signup) — and we’ll be able to take your call later in the show.
- Note: All callers will initially enter the call muted. When we take your call, you’ll hear us announce you, then your phone will say “you’ve been un-muted” and you’re ready to talk.
- GWCers outside the US can participate, too! If you have a USB microphone, you can configure TalkShoe.com’s ShoePhone and connect via VoIP. And, of course, you can listen to the live stream. Visit TalkShoe.com for details.
We’re really excited today, both about the premiere and about the opportunity to interact with our favorite BSG friends. It’s gonna be a great time!
Update: The streaming live episode just ended, with one non-spoiler reveal — SciFi will apparently stream future episodes early at noon on Fridays, too. Nice!
GWC Re-Watch Roundup

We’re busy re-watchin’ away at GWC. If you’d like to jump in, here’s what we’re currently checking out and discussing:
The Son Also Rises carries us further down our headlong path towards new BSG content April 4th. Trash, of course, has opened up numerous questions here on GWC — and still remains one of my favorite Firefly episodes to date. And Don’t Look Back drags us deeper down the Heroes rabbit hole.

We’re busy re-watchin’ away at GWC. If you’d like to jump in, here’s what we’re currently checking out and discussing:
While the missing comma — The Woman, King — may not have endeared this particular BSG ep to everyone when it aired last year, it seems like listeners are already finding some hope in it this week. If nothing else, it reminds us why we like Helo, even if he does screw up sometimes. And Jaynestown? It’s a great example of why we Browncoats are so loyal — even though we only have a handful of shows to last us forever.
It’s week thirty-eight of our planned off-season re-watch of the entire “re-imagined” BSG canon, and after a little time off to watch Razor, it’s time to move on to the season three episode “The Eye of Jupiter.” So why not join us here for the GWC online frak party? There’s room for everyone, though you’ll have to bring your own snacks…
Feel free to jump in at any point with your comments on this week’s episode as the re-watch is by definition spoiler free. We’ll be in and out, but we’ll definitely take a look at your comments before we start next week’s podcast.
Note: Though a lot of the frak party will likely take place in the GWC Forum — click [here] to enter and join the fun — we’re going to leave comments open here as well as some listeners and readers have asked us to do so. Enjoy!

If you’ve yet to join the GWC crew in the official Firefly re-watch, now’s a great time to start. This week’s episode is Bushwhacked, important in that it introduces us to reavers — critical to anyone who’s seen the Firefly movie Serenity — plus it goes a long way toward establishing why the Flrefly ‘verse is the way it is.
We’ll be watching this week as well, and you can join the official discussion over on the GWC Forum.

Welcome
GWC is a community of friendly people who enjoy and participate in geekdom as a whole. We are young and old, female and male, writers and readers, teachers and students, philosophers and skeptics, Browncoats and Trekkies, outside continents and beyond countries -- and we have one thing in common: passionate, shameless enthusiasm.
We’re interested in TV shows, movies, comics, novels, gaming, science, and music. We’re interested in each other. We like to chat about just about any topic. We’ll listen and give informed feedback, and at the end of the day we think of GWC as a clubhouse for a (very large) group of friends.
