Wassup all — it’s the Operator!
It’s award season! That special time of year when LA folks start name-dropping and talking incessantly about who’s who of the what’s what in movies (okay, that’s year round). ANYway, the Producers Guild of America has chosen their nominees for Best Picture. Usually, this list includes one, maybe two I have seen, the rest…not so much.
This is different, however. Three of the nominees for Best Picture are films that some of us may have heard about, if not actually seen.
Avatar
District 9
Star Trek
You know it’s gonna be a good day when you find out the truly awesome Michael Hogan is joining Dollhouse along with Jamie Bamber and Tahmoh Penikett. (Now, if they can just get Tory and Sharon… my diabolical plan will be complete… Mwah-hahahahah).
But on to that which is the trailerness…
There are so many reason we love this show. The acting. The writing. The effects. The mythology.
But it sounds like BSG did something a lot bigger than win an Emmy. Evidently, the UN will no longer use the word “race” as a cultural determinant. We will all be considered a part of one race: the human race.
That is truly past awesome.
Thanks to G4 for the heads up!
Also, for fans of Caprica – Jan. 22, 2010, looks to be the premiere date for the series.
Greetings all — Operator here…
Found some anime goodness that caught my eye. I’ll give you a hint: one has armor and the other has claws. Peep out the trailers after the jump.
Even though I’m not at Comic Con this year — thanks so much to the Bkitty and the other GWC crew for keeping us up on the hotness! — that hasn’t stopped me from running into some sweet stuff.
I’ll admit I have a bit of a crush on Megan Fox. Ok, I’m slightly obsessed and seeking help. But the point is she may actually be a little bad for your health. Case in point: Jennifer’s Body.

I love virals. Not the type where you feel like crap for a few days, lay in bed, drink fluids, and watch Oprah and reruns of Andy Griffith. I mean the viral videos that leak out before a movie release — the kind that makes a movie you kinda want to see into a movie you really want to see.
Or in this case, a movie you really want to see into a movie that you’re ready to storm the theaters to see. Virals can also give you a great back-story without giving away plot. Read on to see my most recent favorites from District 9 and TR2N!

Damn, there’s a lot of great content heading our way later this year and next! Read on for the 411 on the BSG Season 4.5 DVD release, Iron Man 2 (now with more Scarlett), 2012, and V!

Wassup GWC peeps?
Anyone ever hear of Mass Effect? Halo? Sims? ….Anyone?….Bueller?? (Kidding.)
I love that stuff. I especially like the fact that you can become someone else for a little while. Don’t even get me started on Wii — if they ever come out with a Star Wars fight Darth Vader type game, my head may explode. Hell, even with applications like WeeMe [warning: annoying sound ad on page], you can create a virtual you — complete with how you feel that day — and apply it to your IM account and GWC Forum profile.
RDM started the avatar franchise ball rolling with Caprica and Virtuality. Both touch on the concept of simulated living and the ramifications thereof. (BTW, if you haven’t seen Caprica, stop reading, go to Netflix and hook that stuff up. I’ll wait. No, seriously. Got it? Sweet, you’ll dig it.)
But what if we could hook ourselves up and fight in simulations? Or take it further and live our lives without leaving the comfort of home? Well, two movies in September will attempt to show us how that might work out.

Hello fellow GWCers. (Hey, what the frak do we call ourselves? Coolerheads? SeaChuAud-o-philes? Followers of the Galactic Cooler?)
This is my first crack at truly blogging for all of y’all, so be gentle. I’ll start with a little factoid: there are more humans at the end of BSG than there are Vulcans at the end of the new Trek movie.
Now that your noodles are baked sufficiently, let’s talk summer movies. I know, I know. “But Operator,” you say, “the season is only halfway through and there’s still more movie goodness to come.” To which I say, “I agree.” Let’s take District 9 as an example:
Welcome
GWC is a community of friendly people who enjoy and participate in geekdom as a whole. We are young and old, female and male, writers and readers, teachers and students, philosophers and skeptics, Browncoats and Trekkies, outside continents and beyond countries -- and we have one thing in common: passionate, shameless enthusiasm.
We’re interested in TV shows, movies, comics, novels, gaming, science, and music. We’re interested in each other. We like to chat about just about any topic. We’ll listen and give informed feedback, and at the end of the day we think of GWC as a clubhouse for a (very large) group of friends.
