This week: We jump into our heist arc, spending some time with Ocean’s 11. And we’re in (IYKWIM) with Firefly’s Message and Heart of Gold. Also, we run down the week in geek, including the new Spartacus prequel, an update on our anti-Ebert rant from a few weeks ago, a 3D Playboy spread, and new casting rumors for Transformers III and Men In Black III.

Welcome
GWC is a community of friendly people who enjoy and participate in geekdom as a whole. We are young and old, female and male, writers and readers, teachers and students, philosophers and skeptics, Browncoats and Trekkies, outside continents and beyond countries -- and we have one thing in common: passionate, shameless enthusiasm.
We’re interested in TV shows, movies, comics, novels, gaming, science, and music. We’re interested in each other. We like to chat about just about any topic. We’ll listen and give informed feedback, and at the end of the day we think of GWC as a clubhouse for a (very large) group of friends.

I HAVE A FEW REPSONSES TO YOUR WEBSITES, PODCASTS, BLOGS, POSTS AND A FEW OF YOUR MEMBERS I WOULD LOVE TO FOR YOU TO HEAR.
PLEASE INDULGE ME, IT WOULD BE SOME FINE INFORMATION FOR ALL OF YOU.
Finally! I am not alone in complete sci-fi geekdom. I just discovered this podcast and I am finding myself thinking more about the topics of discussion, becoming intrigued and finding new ascpects of science fiction and fantasy. As well as rediscovering the scope of the genre. Your show makes me laugh out loud. I know I’m leaving a response on one of the older podcasts but this is one of my favorite episodes. Oceans 11 is one of my favorite movies; I’d like to say that I do beleive basher’s accent is cockney. And he is one of my favorite characters because he is not afraid to talk honestly to Danny and rusty and to express the incredulity that everyone else is feeling when Danny first explains the plan. As in,everyone’s thinking “you people are batshit crazy”. Basher is the one who constantly expresses what the audience is feeling. Amazement, but basher is a professional, so he can expand the audiences perspective as well. I think it’s important to notice that Reuben is one of the most colorful characters as well. He does remind me of a producer, but one of those producers from the movie “The Producers”. One who goes along unwillingly with a plan he is actually moivated to see throughto the finish.
Two of my favorite lines:
you’re out of your goddamn minds!
I still owe you from that thing with the guy in the place.
Danny and rusty’s chemistry on screen continues to amaze me.
This is one of the most elegantly portrayed heist movies i’ve evr seen. The only hin I can say is that Danny, as always, pulled it off with style. There’s more I could write, but you guys have said it all for me already. You really remind me of how to enjoy science fiction at it’s purest: quoting brilliant lines to freinds who understand them and share your interest and enjoyment in them. I’m excited that you mentioned the acting and casting– but I think the MAJOR part of the movie– one of the things that make it such a delight to watch more than once– is the filming, the angles of the shots, and the music! The way the movie is written there is a lot of non-spoken communication between the cast and the audience.
I look forward to hearing more; and catching up on my firefly : )
thanks,
Jasmine
