Felicia Day’s homegrown (and totally awesome) internet series The Guild recently wrapped filming on its third season, due to release later this summer. Production funds initially came solely from friends and fans and, of course, Ms. Day’s own pocket. But in their best move since releasing Win2k and merging with Nextel, respectively, Microsoft and Sprint now sponsor the show — with the caveat that creative control still rests firmly in the hands of Felicia and her evil minions.

We fans wouldn’t want it any other way.

The story follows the path of a close-knit group of online gamers, who begin the series having met IRL. But soon enough… Well, I’ll keep this spoiler free. Suffice it to say that anyone who’s ever tapped on a keyboard to a far-off friend or gaming mate will instantly find common ground here — and lots of laughs. And more than a little truth. After all, behind the monitors and mics are real people with inherent quirks, strengths, and weaknesses.

Day has clearly proven herself adept at utilizing the internet and modern digital media to promote and further the cause of her capital-A Art, and she may even make a little money in the process. She regularly (and quite wittily) appears on Twitter as @FeliciaDay, and she maintains WatchtheGuild.com. She and the cast are also appearing at Comic Con in San Diego this weekend.

The Guild is available on WatchtheGuild.com, YouTube, XBoxLive, and DVD. I fell in love with it within the first minute of Episode One. Give it a try!
