Here’s our GWC Book Club TalkCast on Isaac Asimov’s Foundation in its entirety. (Originally recorded live December 6, 2008). The Book Club TalkCast is now a monthly event. If you’d like to participate, check out the book club discussion and book selection thread on the forum, and look for another TalkCast next month discussing The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy.

This week we dive into the first X-Men movie. Highlights: we struggle to understand the motivations of Magneto and Xavier, wade through the history of the many characters who make appearances in the flick, speculate on why Wolverine is pissy, Cyclops is dickish, and Jean Gray is maybe a little boring (in the movie), note the differences in powers between men and women in X-Men and how it affects the way they fight, discuss the many sordid relationships in X-Men history, hear Sean’s why-Xavier-is-evil argument, and talk battle room, Storm’s sex life, bubble boobs, and comics as life inspiration.

One alpaca breeding group gathers each year to create fleece hats and socks which they donate to cancer patients. Thanks to this enterprising (if somewhat slow-speaking) iReporter who turned in the story to CNN.
If you haven’t been playing along with GWC’s Geek Deathmatches, there’s never been a better time to give ‘em a shot. The community needs your opinion on these two current (and classic) matchups:
The tale of the tape leans a bit toward The Last Starfighter‘s gunstar, as its reach and wallop seem to exceed that of the sleek viper. But is the viper more maneuverable? And what about the death blossom?
They both don’t care (much). They’re both mean bastards. But if placed in sealed room for a fight to the death, who out not-cares and out bastards who?
Enjoy.
Welcome
GWC is a community of friendly people who enjoy and participate in geekdom as a whole. We are young and old, female and male, writers and readers, teachers and students, philosophers and skeptics, Browncoats and Trekkies, outside continents and beyond countries -- and we have one thing in common: passionate, shameless enthusiasm.
We’re interested in TV shows, movies, comics, novels, gaming, science, and music. We’re interested in each other. We like to chat about just about any topic. We’ll listen and give informed feedback, and at the end of the day we think of GWC as a clubhouse for a (very large) group of friends.
