April GWC Book Of The Month: 2001 by Arthur C. Clarke

This month we took the suggestion of numerous GWCers and skipped the normal voting process, instead selecting 2001: A Space Odyssey as our monthly group read in honor of Arthur C. Clarke’s recent passing.
The book and movie were written concurrently, and the story is largely based on various Clarke short stories. Wikipedia has a great rundown on some of the differences between the novel and movie, but the best way to discover them is to snag yourself a copy and read it for yourself — along with your friends here at GWC!

Welcome
GWC is a community of friendly people who enjoy and participate in geekdom as a whole. We are young and old, female and male, writers and readers, teachers and students, philosophers and skeptics, Browncoats and Trekkies, outside continents and beyond countries -- and we have one thing in common: passionate, shameless enthusiasm.
We’re interested in TV shows, movies, comics, novels, gaming, science, and music. We’re interested in each other. We like to chat about just about any topic. We’ll listen and give informed feedback, and at the end of the day we think of GWC as a clubhouse for a (very large) group of friends.

For anyone whose skeptical because the movie ending didn’t seem to make any sense – reading 2001 did for me what reading Godfather did for me for the ending of that movie – it all made sense after I read the book and saw what was going on under the surface. I then went back and watched the movie and I got so much more out of it.
