This week’s re-watch episode, Exodus, Pt. 2, brings us some incredible SFX plus a lot of discussion, and we’re still reeling from Razor. Highlights: we miss Ellen even more than the first time ’round, continue the Cain vs. Adama leadership style debate, question the necessity of Ellen’s sacrifice — and wonder again if she knew what she was drinking — discuss Roslin’s role in this episode and later in season three, and take a variety of listener calls.Â

It’s week thirty-three of our planned off-season re-watch of the entire “re-imagined” BSG canon, and after a little time off to watch Razor, it’s time to move on to the season three episode “Exodus, Pt. 2.” So why not join us here for the GWC online frak party? There’s room for everyone, though you’ll have to bring your own snacks…
Feel free to jump in at any point with your comments on this week’s episode as the re-watch is by definition spoiler free. We’ll be in and out, but we’ll definitely take a look at your comments before we start next week’s podcast.
Note: Though a lot of the frak party will likely take place in the GWC Forum — click [here] to enter and join the fun — we’re going to leave comments open here as well as some listeners and readers have asked us to do so. Enjoy!

In this post-Razor ‘cast we take the opportunity to catch up on listener calls, taking dozens (literally) of ‘em. Highlights: we take a call from the USS Abraham Lincoln, discuss a couple of old-series episodes that seem eerily similar to current ones, consider the true meaning of the Olmostash, toss out some crazy theories, lament the battle between NBC and fans and suck generated by the ensuing lack of online downloads and DVDs, re-visit the question of Watchtower’s origin, hear Lawyer Bill’s defense case for Jammer, learn that Audra’s never been to Vegas, debate Cain’s morality and leadership qualities, tout buddy-to-GWCers-everywhere Larry, and — most of all — remember how incredibly awesome GWC listeners are.

Because Razor brought in so many listener calls — which we didn’t get to at all last week — we’ve bumped the re-watch schedule back one week to allow us to take calls in this week’s ‘cast. So if you’re wondering what’s on the schedule for this week (or any other week), check out the official GWC calendar on the forum.
And don’t worry about the re-watch not finishing in time for the season four premiere. Right now we’re finishing in the last week of March, just in time for the April release. But if by some miracle Sci-Fi finds it in their heart to release in March, we’ll just put some of the two-parters back together into a single watch to make up the difference.

If you’ve listened to more than about five mintues of GWC, you know we’re big Futurama fans. So how could we possibly pass up watching and commenting on the first new Futurama material in years?
We snagged our copy just days after release, and have already watched it a few times. Our advice: ignore the mediocre reviews and obtain a copy right away. This feature-length flick wasn’t made for critics, it wasn’t made for new audiences, and it wasn’t made for film buffs. It was made for us, the fans. It’s an 88-minute thank you to everyone who stuck with the series after its untimely demise wrapped in an 88-minute sendup of Fox and the moronic executives who canned the show filled with 88-minutes of glee.
Look for a DTA podcast on this down the pike, and don’t be afraid to join the Frak Party to celebrate Planet Express’ glorious return.

All the votes are in, and GWCer’s voted in a landslide to read Robert A. Heinlein’s Hugo-winning novel, Starship Troopers — a selection sure to spark lots of discussion.
Why? Heinlein is famous — or maybe infamous – for his unique combination of extreme socal and political views. Wikipedia describes ‘Troopers as a novel in which Heinlein “examines moral and philosophical aspects of sufferage, civic virtue, the necessities of war and capital punishment, and the nature of juvenile delinquency,” and in my personal reading experience, I’d say this is an accurate description. As you can imagine, the results of this examination prove somewhat incidiary.
More succinctly, it’ll probably piss a lot of people off.
One thing’s certain, though: it’s a short read with a long discussion tail. Perfect for the GWC Book Club. (And no, watching the movie doesn’t give you a feel for the book.)

GWC is a community of friendly people who enjoy and participate in geekdom as a whole. We are young and old, female and male, writers and readers, teachers and students, philosophers and skeptics, Browncoats and Trekkies, outside continents and beyond countries -- and we have one thing in common: passionate, shameless enthusiasm.
We’re interested in TV shows, movies, comics, novels, gaming, science, and music. We’re interested in each other. We like to chat about just about any topic. We’ll listen and give informed feedback, and at the end of the day we think of GWC as a clubhouse for a (very large) group of friends.
