chuck-trans.gifIt’s week thirty-seven of our planned off-season re-watch of the entire “re-imagined” BSG canon, and after a little time off to watch Razor, it’s time to move on to the season three episode “A Measure of Salvation.” So why not join us here for the GWC online frak party? There’s room for everyone, though you’ll have to bring your own snacks…

Feel free to jump in at any point with your comments on this week’s episode as the re-watch is by definition spoiler free. We’ll be in and out, but we’ll definitely take a look at your comments before we start next week’s podcast.

Note: Though a lot of the frak party will likely take place in the GWC Forum — click [here] to enter and join the fun — we’re going to leave comments open here as well as some listeners and readers have asked us to do so. Enjoy!

Here’s the new weekly presidential approval poll. Remember — even if you voted last week, you’ll want to vote again on this poll as this is a weekly feature and the results will vary from week to week. Let your opinion be heard (for free)!

Remember: This approval poll applies to the current GWC re-watch schedule, which means you should be voting for your feelings circa Episode 306: “A Measure of Salvation.”

Do you approve or disapprove of the way Laura Roslin is handling her job as president?

  • Approve: 58% (37 votes)
  • Disapprove: 41% (26 votes)
  • Unsure: 2% (1 vote)

Total Votes: 64

This week we cover the re-watch episode Torn, but we also take a few minutes to disucss Chrismas loot. Highlights: Sean scores a copy of the new sci-fi game Mass Effect and loves it, Chuck bemoans the fact that Wil Wheaton won’t guest on GWC, Audra answers the ultimate question — where does Lara Croft keep the guns? — and we speculate more on the origin of goo, note the re-watch appearance of Sharon Tai Chi, discuss Racetrack’s incredible luck, question again whether or not Baltar’s a Cylon, wonder if Ms. Sackhoff really cut her hair with a KA-Bar for the show, speculate that EJO used “the voice” on Hot Dog as a child, and debate the official drink of GWC (and whether it includes a C3PO action figure). Look for a call-heavy episode next week. Happy New Year, and be safe on the ‘eve.

audra-a1.gifOn the Twelfth Day of BSG my true love gave to me:

Twelve Raiders Raiding
Eleven Vipers Viping
Ten Larrys Leaping
Nine Gaetas Prancing
Eight Naked Sharons
Seven Spines a’Glowing
Six Sixes Laying

Five Tubs of Goo!

Four Battling Birds
Three Hybrids
Two Pyramid Balls
And the Towel that was Draped Around Lee!

Welcome to a special Christmas GWC episode where we kick back and talk about a few things non-Galactica.

The poll to select the January GWC book-of-the-month is open, and there are some great contenders this month — as always. If you get a chance, be sure to stop by the GWC Forum and vote.

And if you haven’t already picked up a copy of December’s Starship Troopers, don’t hold off any longer. There’s a lively discussion going on among those who’re new readers and those who read the book years ago. You’re welcome to join in!

I know some of you will argue that this isn’t sci-fi. But you’re dead wrong. As Sean once argued (quite intelligently, effectively, and undeniably) to me, any movie that includes an intelligent computer is, well, totally sci-fi. And besides that, it’s an incredibly seminal flick. I earned most of my adult living based on the skills I picked up unofficially because of this movie. And I’ll bet more than a few of you can say the same.

Plus, Ally Sheedy is majorly hot in this — looking great in a way that women now only dream they could — without looking like a stick. Geeks like curves, man. Curves!

If for whatever reason you haven’t managed to see this movie yet. (Like, for example, you were born after the fall of the Soviet Union. We’re talking about you, Boxy!) You need to rent it RIGHT NOW. And if you saw it in the theater like I did (three times), grab a copy and refresh yourself. Why? Because you’re going to receive a DTA on it very soon, that’s why!

Collaborators spurred quite a bit of discussion this week about what to do with those who worked with the Cylons during the occupation, and Shamus provides one of the best “last episode” introductions in GWC history. Highlights: we don’t feel that sorry for Jammer, see Gaeta’s moment of truth in a somewhat different light the second time ’round, shoot the bull about Tron and its lesser-known spin-off Reboot, and note that there’s (thankfully) no towel scene in the latest “Final Cut” release of Blade Runner.

geekcard-450.jpg

Yes my GWC friends the time is here. You can now certify that you are in fact – a Sci-Fi geek. Amaze your friends with your ninja-like geek knowledge, save whales (specifically to avoid crazy alien probes that might show up and not leave before they speak to them) or generally prove without a shadow of a doubt your janky geek skills.

You will each receive a geek card. Everything you do or learn will be imprinted on this card. If you lose your card or fail to obey commands, you will be subject to immediate de-resolution. That will be all.

Seroiusly though. Download the jpg from here or hit me up via email sean@galacticawatercooler.com for a larger one. Enjoy.

~ Also mad props to my homie Darthweef who remembered the entire Sark speech without cheating.
