As we discussed at length in DTA Podcast #1, we all ran out of the theater after seeing The Last Starfighter hoping to find a Starfighter game in the arcade — so we could blow our little hometowns home planet forever. Well, now you can have a Starfighter game of your very own — but you’ll have to build it yourself.

GWC listener TighGetsPunchedALot swiped this image from Galactica.TV’s awesome interview with Gary Hutzel, visual effects supervisor on the re-imagined BSG series. The interview contains all sorts of interesting information about the process designers followed to create the new/old CGI’d cylons, but as you can see, GWC listeners had a bit more fun coming up with crazy captions for the shot.

The one above is my favorite (so far), but check out the thread for lots, lots more — and don’t forget to add your own.

If you’re not a regular GWC forum reader, you may have missed out on this great find: BSG’s own Nicki Clyne singing “Tainted Love” at the Syndey Supanova convention this year. And while her vocal performance might be a tiny bit off, you’ve got to give her mad props for an enthusiastic performance — 90% of good Karaoke in my opinion.

So did any of you Australian GWC listeners catch this performance live?

Since we’re officially waiting until April for new post-Razor Galactica, we decided to “unpack” the re-watch schedule a bit, giving each episode its own week instead of stacking up two-part episodes. We’ve updated the schedule in the official calendar over in the forum.

Immediately — GWC “immediately,” not Sci-Fi “immediately” — this means that next week’s re-watch episode is now 220: Lay Down Your Burdens, Pt. 2. Since we’ve already posted a 219/220 Frak Party (and one on the forum), we’re going to leave it up for this week’s discussion as well. We’ve already posted separate presidential approval polls for each episode, so you can continue to vote there.

The current re-watch schedule ends in the middle of March, which (at this early guess) should just give us time to have a little fun leading up to the season four kick-off, but we’ll change it again if necessary.

We discuss this week’s action-packed ‘sode, jump on the first half of the season two-point-five cliffhanger, and (as always) take a number of listener calls. Highlights: we discuss the chances of Lil’ Adama landing (by choice?) in the same building with the gen-one Cylon, enjoy seeing the world briefly from a first-Cylon POV, wonder if maybe the gen-one Cylons are indeed smarter than the new ones, talk about Brother Cavil’s introduction and his possible role in BSG’s future, question the foreshadowing of the Chief’s dream (and wonder if Cavil didn’t “plant” it), and bust on Sci-Fi for the April release date decision.

If you haven’t read this LA Times Blog shocker yet, take a look. Just as we suspected, “2008″ doesn’t necessarily mean January. Apparently it means “April.” From the Times Blog:

“Ronald D. Moore, the executive producer who runs “Battlestar Galactica,” is gearing up for the long goodbye by taking on a new task. He will step into the director’s chair for the first time next season as his dramatic reinvention of the hokey 1970s’ space opera treks toward the end. The final 20-episode run will kick off in — you read it here first — early April.”

At this point it also seems pretty certain that SciFi will interject a large mid-season break just like they did in season three, which means we probably won’t see BSG wrap up until sometime in 2009.

Yes, it’s frustrating. Infuriatingly so. But I hope most fans take it in stride, avoiding the easy-to-cop “that’s it, I give up” attitude. I have a feeling that season four is going to be something great, even if we have to wait for it.

And don’t worry: GWC isn’t going away regardless of what SciFi does to BSG.

chuck-trans.gifIt’s week thirty of our planned off-season re-watch of the entire “re-imagined” BSG canon, and it’s time to move on to the season 2.5 two-part finale “Lay Down Your Burdens Pt. 1 & 2.” So why not join us here for the GWC online frak party? There’s room for everyone, though you’ll have to bring your own snacks…

Feel free to jump in at any point with your comments on this week’s episode as the re-watch is by definition spoiler free. We’ll be in and out, but we’ll definitely take a look at your comments before we start next week’s podcast.

Note: Though a lot of the frak party will likely take place in the GWC Forum — click [here] to enter and join the fun — we’re going to leave comments open here as well as some listeners and readers have asked us to do so. Enjoy!

Here’s the new weekly presidential approval poll. Remember — even if you voted last week, you’ll want to vote again on this poll as this is a weekly feature and the results will vary from week to week. Let your opinion be heard (for free)!

Remember: This approval poll applies to the current GWC re-watch schedule, which means you should be voting for your feelings circa Episode 220: “Lay Down Your Burdens Pt. 1.”

This week’s rewatch episode, Downloaded, marks a turning point for the series in many ways. Add to that a killer Razor Flashback and a season four trailer and we’ve got a lot to talk about. Highlights: we wrangle ’round about young Adama’s blue contacts, notice his suspiciously clean Viper, marvel at how real the old-style raiders seem, wonder who Roslin’s shooting at in the trailer, debate the true Cylon-ness of the “final four,” wonder who the last Cylon might be, talk at length about the Cylon “war heroes” and how their movement (no matter how possibly well-intended) ends up bad for the Colonials, miss the incredible Head Baltar, and ask big, big questions.

sean-a.gifI hate traveling. Leaving my home-base area is pretty much the last thing on my list of stuff I want to do. Life however does not allow for me to be a hermit which is how the entire GWC crew headed down to Maker Faire in Austin this weekend.

While setting up at the fair grounds in Austin – wondering what kind of strange people would be in the spaces adjacent to us – a guy walks over with a firm handshake and broad smile and tells me his name is Troy. I introduce myself and his face breaks into a grin and tells me that he listens to the GWC podcast and is in the space directly across from us. I think to myself at that moment that this isn’t going to be so bad after all with a fellow Sci-Fi geek to hang with. I was right.

As it turns out it was frakken sweet. Over a beer later that night Troy and I talk at length about our many similar interests and views on quite a few unrelated BSG topics. Though the weekend went quickly and we all had to man our various battle stations it was always a bit comforting to know we were among friends.

After a quick farewell, (Troy had to catch a flight and we had to get on the long road back to Dallas) I was in the car driving home thinking about how cool it is that every time we meet a GWC listener, they are completely awesome. So mad props to my homie Troy - I saw tons of cool stuff over the weekend but hanging with a fellow geek made the trip totally worth it.

There are many stories that I’m sure you’ll hear on the upcoming podcast but I thought I would take this opportunity to say, “YA’LL FRAKKEN ROCK!”

chuck-trans.gifIf you’re in the Philadelphia area — or pretty much anywhere in the northeast as there seem to be people coming from NYC and elsewhere — you might want to join up with the GWC Philly Crue for their meetup today.

Be sure to check out this thread in the forum for last-minute updates, but as of right now the plan seems to be to meet at:

The Brunswick Zone XL
100 E Street Rd
Feasterville Trevose, PA 19053-7604

…at 1 p.m. (ET, of course). We hear there’s food there, and a bar with big screen TVs as well as a number of restaurants within a short drive.

Enjoy!
