comander-chuck.jpgIt’s week two of our planned off-season re-watch of the entire “re-imagined” BSG canon, and after watching the mind-blowing “started it all” Mini-Series, it’s time to move on to the first episode of season one: “33.”  So why not join us here for the GWC online frak party?  There’s room for everyone, though you’ll have to bring your own snacks…

Feel free to jump in at any point with your comments on this week’s episode as the re-watch is by definition spoiler free.  We’ll be in and out, but we’ll definitely take a look at your comments before we start next week’s podcast — which will be a combination “catch up” on the Mini-Series and 33 rewatch as well as a few more spillover calls from the season three finale.

See you here all week!

Here’s the new weekly presidental approval poll.  Remember — even if you voted last week, you’ll want to vote again on this poll as this is a weekly feature and the results will vary from week to week.  Let your opinion be heard (for free)!

Remember: This approval poll applies to the current GWC re-watch schedule, which means you should be voting for your feelings circa Episode 101: “33.”

Do you approve or disapprove of the way Laura Roslin is handling her job as president?

  • Approve: 76% (143 votes)
  • Disapprove: 18% (35 votes)
  • Unsure: 6% (11 votes)

Total Votes: 194

Note: This poll is closed, but you can vote in the current poll.

As we continue the scheduled re-watch into the first episode of season one — “33″ — we offer our first “commentary-style” podcast which we recorded while actually watching the episode.  So grab your DVDs — or your vivid memory — and watch this week’s re-watch episode along with us.  Highlights: we wow over the truly incredible CGI we’ve been missing at the end of season three, get a big kick out of seeing Billy again, note how different Adama-the-elder seems this far back, and love on the BSG crew for having the guts to premiere the show with all their expensive, beautiful actors looking haggard as hell.  Note: Though we’ve closed the polling for season one, you can still vote to select which season two and season three episodes we record in this fashion.

This bonus podcast continues last week’s listener cast as we take another group of the many calls we received regarding the season three finale.  Highlights: callers challenge and enlighten us on the topics of the nature of the final four, Tigh’s history, the possible identity of the remaining unrevealed Cylon, the origins of humanity and the Cylons, and other music that might have replaced “Watchtower” — like “It’s Raining Men.”  (P.S. If you’re concerned about all the long podcasts, don’t despair.  This Sunday we return to our normally scheduled programming with our first commentary-style ‘cast for “33,” the next episode in the re-watch.)

comander-chuck.jpgThis is just a quick note to let you know that GWC Podcast #37 — the “bonus” second listener podcast we promised Sunday — is in post right now and should be out shortly.

It’s another long ‘cast, mainly because we received so many great calls that we just didn’t have time to include all of them – even in this hour-plus bonus ‘cast.  Don’t sweat it, though: after this ‘cast we’ll return to our normal about-an-hour length so you’ll have time to digest it all each week.  We figured that between the mind-blowing season finale and the great listener calls, it was worth extending a bit.

comander-chuck.jpgAs you heard in GWC Podcast #36, one astute listener caught the appearance of an actual Galactica watercooler during the “Cylon reveal” in the season finale.  Like you, we dove for the TiVo to see it for ourselves.  For those of you without a copy, another listener sent us a great screenshot of the moment.  (Thanks, Jeremiah!)

Some have written in suggesting that this item’s appearance isn’t an accident, but I personally can’t believe that.  Regardless, it’s good fun, and we got a big kick out of it.

comander-chuck.jpgWe’re beginning our planned off-season re-watch of the entire “re-imagined” BSG canon today, starting with the mini-series.  So why not join us here for the GWC online frak party?  There’s room for everyone, though you’ll have to bring your own snacks…

Feel free to jump in at any point with your comments on this week’s episode as the re-watch is by definition spoiler free.  We’ll be in and out, but we’ll definitely take a look at your comments before we start next week’s podcast.

See you here all week!

By listener/reader request, we’re going to continue the weekly presidential approval poll through the off-season.  So…

Here’s the new weekly presidental approval poll.  Remember — even if you voted last week, you’ll want to vote again on this poll as this is a weekly feature and the results will vary from week to week.  Let your opinion be heard (for free)!

Do you approve or disapprove of the way Laura Roslin is handling her job as president?

  • Approve: 50% (131 votes)
  • Disapprove: 36% (94 votes)
  • Unsure: 14% (36 votes)

Note: This poll is closed, but you can vote in this week’s poll which will post shortly!

We’re still reeling from BSG’s explosive season three finale — as you are, too, considering the volume of great calls for this week’s listener podcast.  We took as many calls as we could, and we’re planning a mid-week bonus ‘cast to fit in a few more.  Highlights: We expound upon the concept of artist’s ideas vs. audience concepts (in light of RDM’s recent podcasts and interviews); discuss Starbuck, Headbuck, and the identity of the final (maybe) Cylon; speculate further on the history and physio-religious makeup of the BSG universe; question the existence of “creative ether;” love on Romo Lampkin some more; run down the possibilities of what relation “Watchtower” might have to our world; and wonder if the “final four” really are what they think they are.  We also talk a bit about the GWC “support group” re-watch, which starts this week.

comander-chuck.jpgIt’s been a crazy week here at GWC as we’ve been sorting through all the awesome calls we received for this week’s listener cast, so first off let me offer a hearty thank you to everyone who took the time to call or send us audio.  This week’s ‘cast is in post right now, but we had so many calls that we’re actually planning a bonus ‘cast mid-week to fit more of ‘em in.

But to the point: Here’s the lowdown on the season one re-watch as promised.

Each week we’ll post a “Frak Party” for the current week’s re-watch episode.  As you watch the episode during the week, go ahead and post your comments.  (There really aren’t any spoilers in the re-watch, so post whenever you happen to watch.)  We have a variety of different podcasts scheduled for the off-season including guests, commentary, etc., so sometimes we’ll discuss the episode at the end of the week and sometimes we’ll gather a few re-watch episodes together for a single podcast.  Don’t worry, though: you’ll receive a podcast each week, and you’ll have plenty of opportunity to contribute and participate!

Here’s the initial schedule for season one, starting this week:

  • Week of 4/2: The Mini-Series
  • Week of 4/9: 33 (101)
  • Week of 4/16: Water (102)
  • Week of 4/23: Bastille Day (103)
  • Week of 4/30: Act of Contrition (104)
  • Week of 5/7: You Can’t Go Home Again (105)
  • Week of 5/14: Litmus (106)
  • Week of 5/21: Six Degrees of Separation (107)
  • Week of 5/28: Flesh and Bone (108)
  • Week of 6/4: Tigh Me Up, Tigh Me Down (109)
  • Week of 6/11: The Hand of God (110)
  • Week of 6/18: Colonial Day (111)
  • Week of 6/25: Kobol’s Last Gleaming, Pt. 1 (112)
  • Week of 7/2: Kobol’s Last Gleaming, Pt. 2 (113)

Look for this week’s Frak Party post right after the podcast releases — shortly! — and we’re looking forward to the start of your friendly neighborhood spider BSG support group.

Note: Next Sunday’s podcast will be the commentary for “33,” which co-incides with the re-watch.  So, if you like we can actually watch the episode together.  We’ll run the podcast past the end of the episode, of course, to talk about the mini-series and everything else that’s going on this week.
